Die Vergangenheitsformen der unregelmäßigen Verben müssen auswendig gelernt werden. Verwende das Präteritum (die zweite Form des Verbs), um über vergangene Ereignisse zu sprechen, z.B. buy – bought – bought:

Melissa hat ein Comicheft für ihre Nichte gekauft.
Das Perfekt wird mit der Präsensform des Verbs have und dem Partizip Perfekt des Vollverbs (die dritte Form) gebildet, z.B.: know – knew – known:
I have known about their affair for months.
Ich weiß schon seit Monaten von ihrer Affäre.
Das Plusquamperfekt wird aus der Präteritumform des have-Verbs (had) und dem Partizip Perfekt des Vollverbs (der dritten Form des Verbs) gebildet, z.B.: know – knew – known:
